Recently my husband and I were blessed to go on a 9 day vacation to Naples, Fl. Before we left I got on line to find a parish to attend while we were there. Deciding on St William's I noticed that on their website the had a rosary makers guild so I wrote down the contact number. Once we were settled in Naples we attended mass the next day and picked up a parish bulletin. The rosary makers guild happened to be meeting that week so I called and invited myself. The person I contacted told me that they were a large group, about 100 members and was one of the oldest in the country.
Needless to say I was really excited to meet them. They were a lovely group and very lively. They have their own way of making rosaries, with a needle, waxed thread that resembled a thick dental floss, using bead trays and crimps to hold the rosaries together. They also had a few members making knot military rosaries. It was very different from the cord/wire rosaries that I make. They showed me "their way" and I showed them mine, which they had not seen before. It was a great way to spend a morning.
I encourage all of you when you are going on vacation to see if there is a rosary making group meeting in the area where you are staying. I hope someday I will have the opportunity to visit with them again.

Rosemarie, I use a crochet hook to make knotted cord rosaries, all cord. No beads. I don't crochet them, I just use the crochet hook to help drag the twine through more quickly than stuffing it through.

I am interested in this "dental floss with a needle" concept and wondered if you could explain it to me, or if you have information you can give me to contact that rosary guild you met with in Florida, for them to help me.

I just ordered the Pro-Life Rosary Kit and am awaiting its arrival, and wondered if I could really crank them out with the dental floss. I'm kind of clumsy on the knots with that small twine. I use FNT and Divine Twine and Shady Twine mainly. It is bigger.

Thank you.
