What is the best size cord to use with C3/G crucifixes?

Postby CCBaxter » Sun Dec 25, 2011 3:37 pm

I bought these crucifixes thinking number 9 cord would work, but it is too thick. http://www.olrm.org/online_store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=529

So, which size cord is best with these crucifixes? Or do you just generally use wire for these?

Well, I am pretty sure these crucifixes are not meant to be used with #9 cord. However, I have found a way to thread the cord through the hole in the crucifix, just in case anyone is having the same difficulty with the tiny hole. I take the cord, and cut like in this picture...

Sometimes this lets me push it through enough to be able to wrestle it through the hole. If anyone has a better way, please let me know. Thanks.

Greetings, CC.
You seem to have found the best solution!
Maybe it would help to apply some craft glue thinned with a few drops of water to your cord and let it dry thoroughly before cutting? the extra stiffening might make it a bit easier to thread through the opening.

Years ago I was in a similar predicament and seem to remember making an extension... a metal "split ring" large enough to accommodate the cord was then attached the crucifix with a second split ring, to keep the same orientation. (Otherwise the crucifix would turn sideways.)

As long as you have found a way to coax your cord through the small opening, it does seem best to attach it directly.

God bless you.

I have used a diamond hole reamer to enlarge the hole. I does not take much to be just the right size.

God Bless.
