how to embed a photo in a post?

UtahRosary, the ladder rosaries that you made for your children sound lovely! Hoping to see them some day.

I saw your question about embedding photos in another thread and thought if we start a new topic, someone who knows the answer may be more likely to see and offer advice.

I have not done this myself, but believe you would need to upload your photos offsite and then link to them in the body of your message. A popular place to store images seems to be "Photobucket".

If the photos from your camera are a high resolution, you may need to resize them first. A nice freeware program for editing images is "Irfanview". (It works with Windows, but not Mac.)
7/1/11 edit: there is a way to resize photos using Windows Paint - see below.

When you are logged in to your OLRM member account, go to your "profile"... at the bottom of that page is a section where you would add a link to an avatar (stored at photobucket or a similar place). There are some size restrictions.

God bless you.

Everything that was said above is accurate.

We do not quite have the capability to host all sorts of images on our servers, so we did not want to make that functionality available. Therefore, if you want to post any pictures or have an avatar, you need to upload to some other site and then link to it on our site.

For avatars, like Maire said, just click on your Profile at the top of the screen. At the bottom of your profile screen, enter in the link to your offline avatar photo, then click Submit. That will update your avatar.

To insert an image into a post, you have to put the following "code" in your reply: . Don't put any spaces between the brackets and the image url. If you hover over the Img button on the reply screen, you should see some text pop up underneath "Font colour" that instructs you what to do.

If all of that sounded like gibberish, just let me know, and I will try to clarify.

Thanks for your helpful explanation, Mr. Ford. (The part about making a link was baffling me, but not anymore.)

Thank you to everyone at OLRM for all the resources you provide for us, for all the wonderful work you do!

God bless you.

Windows "Paint" program has a feature to resize photos... who knew?

Windows 7:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... sing-Paint

Windows XP:
Right-click on photo. Choose "Edit" which should open it in Paint program.
Choose "Image" then "Stretch/Skew".
Enter 50% in height and 50% in width. (Keep this number the same in both fields to preserve the ratio.)
If photo is still too large, exit without saving, reopen the file and choose a lower percentage number.
When photo is desired size, choose File -> Save As -> "new.jpg"
Choose a unique file name for each photo so that your original is not overwritten.
